Being a Male and Becoming a Man!

"He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind (Adam, Man) in the day they were created." - Genesis 5:2

"Being a male is a matter of birth. Being a man is a matter of choice."
Dr. Edwin Louis Cole Earlier this year, I presented an eight part teaching series to teenage boys entitled "Being a male and becoming a man." Given the state of our society today and the moral decay over the last 40 years, I can see why the Lord sent this message. Teenagers are confused about who they are in Christ Jesus. They can read the Bible and see for themselves what the Word of God actually says. However, without revelation knowledge of what they are reading, they will find themselves pulled between the influences of worldly beliefs in society (and even church leaders) and the Word of God.

Far too many men and women in the church, who call themselves pastors, teachers, evangelists and leaders, are accepting the teaching of society in the realm of morality. The standard for morality in society and in the world is the Word of God. God's Word will NEVER change no matter how unpopular it becomes. In other words, SIN is SIN no matter how popular it becomes. You can redefine it or try to ignore it, but it will always be sin. Tolerance of sin has nothing to do with caring about people and how they feel. Tolerance of sin has to do with hating God, period. God hates sin! Jesus is an offense to sinners! As born again Christian, we love the person, but we hate the sin just as our Father in Heaven does.

The tendency to support sinful behavior by church leaders is not surprising. So called church leaders openly engage in sinful activities and society just laughs. People call themselves Reverend, Pastor and Preacher to get respect, but then openly live like prostitutes, pimps and pushers. They will support anyone's immorality as long as it gets them recognition, money and power. The most sinful and unrepentant member of some churches is too often the pastor and/or their laity leaders. They are often immune from prosecution because they are considered "anointed" of God. Their anointing is certainly not from God, but from their father Satan. Satan is the father of liars and deceivers.

Today some Christians are in a panic because of same sex marriage and the redefining of marriage by a small segment of society (less than 2%) who define themselves as homosexuals. So called church leaders who call themselves pastors and openly admit their practice of the sin of homosexuality are delusive. How many Biblical scripture references do they need before they will acknowledge that the sin of homosexuality is an ABOMINATION in the eyes of God? (Romans 1:18-25, 26-28, 29-32; Leviticus 18:22, 20:13; I Kings 14:24; Daniel 11:37 anti-christ; Genesis 9:24-25, 19:4-5, 24; I Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV; Jude 7; to name a few) I guess there will never be enough scriptures for them because they are blasphemers (Matthew 12:31 -32 and Hebrews 6:4-6). They are calling that which is evil, good and that which is good, evil.

It doesn't do any good to panic about society. As Christians, our role is to keep order within the Body of Christ. The pursuit of holiness within churches needs to be restored. I believe as we restore the church, we will impact our society. We must take back our positions in society as law makers, governors, mayors, city council members, board members of community impacting organizations, and as volunteers within every family focus organization in our society. The 60% - 70% of America who claim to be Christian will have to take back society because society is not going to surrender without a fight. We must do it as members of Holy Spirit filled churches, if we are going to be successful, because without the Holy Spirit we will lack the boldness, confidence, and conviction to complete the task (Acts 1:8, Chapter 2). I said do not be surprised. The condition of the Body of Christ should be reflected in society, but the condition of society is too often reflected within the Body of Christ. No wonder teenagers are confused. Should they believe the Word of God or man? This would be a "no brainer" except for the fact far too many of the people they look up to, adult leaders and "mature" Christians, are just as confused.

For many teens, peer pressure is real, but Jesus is not. They ask why God doesn't do something about all of this sin. I tell them, God already has and is doing something. He even wrote it down in scripture so we would have a ready reference. In the Book of James 1:15 it says, "Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted by God; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death."

God has already done all He needs to do to punish sinful behavior. God set in place consequences for sin and those consequences are activated the moment we sin. The final consequence of sin is death. In other words, when we sin, death is assigned to us. As born again believers, we have the right to repent to God (not to man) and be forgiven for our sins. The final consequence of death is removed by God. However, depending on the sin, restitution may be necessary; forgiving others and apologizing to others may also be necessary.

Do not be deceived, the Word of God in Ecclesiastes 8:11 says,
"Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil."

God created all mankind and He says (Romans 3:23 ), "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" and that includes everyone. Mankind is sinful by nature. The world teaches that mankind is good by nature and that is not true. It takes willingness on our part to obey the Word of God. It takes discipline, transformation and a renewed mind to obey the instructions from our spirit to do good. Mostly, it takes a pursuit of God's Word on a daily basis with prayer to sustain a righteous walk with the Lord.

So, when you hear teens or younger children questioning who they are tell them the scripture at the top of the article. God created them male and female. The people of the world can say what they will, but God did not make a mistake and give a male a female's body or vice versa. They are not talking about who God created them to be, but they are talking about their sexual desires.

Additionally, there is no "gene" or "DNA molecule" that some have and some do not have that creates the desire to have sex with the same gender, or with a child, or with animals, or with their parents, or with their siblings, or anyone or anything. Having sex or not having sex is a decision (excluding forced sexual acts). Sex outside of marriage is a sin and sex with the same gender is an abomination.

As Dr. Cole stated, becoming a man is a choice. Make a choice, but stop blaming God for you lack of self-discipline, your willingness to believe liars and your desire to sin. If you choose to have sex outside of marriage, as God has commanded, then be ready to pay the price for your sin. The wages of sin will certainly come due in time.

God says in II Timothy 1:7, "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Use your sound mind to make the right choices and use the power of love to overcome fear and death from sin.

God is good, all the time and to everybody!

Praise the Lord!
