Personality Styles

There are four specific styles. These are styles of behavior not traits, there are over 800 personality traits.

Personality Styles
Controlling/Supporting/Promoting/Analyzing

1. Controlling - dominant, task oriented people

- Presidents: Truman/Kennedy/Nixon/GW Bush

- Asks what do you want done

- Start most Relationships (many are short lived)

- Likes to be the leader or be in-charge; makes decisions

2. Supporting - easy going, people oriented people

- Presidents: Lincoln/FD Roosevelt/Ford/GH Bush

- Asks why do you want it done

- Ends relationships (will not take you back)

- Likes to be needed for who they are (caring)

3. Promoting - dominant, people oriented people

- Presidents: Clinton/Reagan

- Asks who is going to do it

- Has many Relationships (few if any are intimate)

- Likes to be accepted for what they do (talent)

4. Analyzing - easy going, task oriented people

- Presidents: Eisenhower/Carter

- Asks how it is going to get done

- Has very few Relationships (only one would be intimate)

- Likes to seek knowledge, to know how things work

All of the four styles are equal in strength as far as leadership goes. Being a dominant person does not make you a better leader than an easy going person. They just have different styles of leadership. We have all four styles in our make up, but only one is our major style.

Our major style is the one that drives us. Our vision is connected to our major style. Who we are is found in our major style. The validation for our major style comes through feedback from other people, not from self-assessment testing.

It takes 2-6 hours of interactive exercises before a true awareness of your major personality style becomes acceptable for most people. These interactive exercises are presented in the Leadership Through Personal Awareness Seminar/Workshop.
